Just off I-59/20’s exit 100, nestled in the rural area of eastern Tuscaloosa County, sits the town of Lake View, Alabama. It’s located halfway between Tuscaloosa and Birmingham and mere minutes from both I-59/20 and I-459. This hidden jewel has residential and commercial areas still available for future growth – and the building is back!
There are two bedroom communities located in Lake View, the Tannehill Preserve and the portion of the town that sits in the original Million Dollar Lakes. The Tannehill Preserve features a variety of single-family home sizes and styles with access to 4 fishing lakes, walking trails and a neighborhood swimming pool.
The other Lake View neighborhood is located in an area of wooded hills with a Ski Lake large enough to accommodate boating (fishing and ski boats, personal watercraft, pontoon boats, and canoes) and a park with a beach area for swimming. Fishing is also popular on the Ski Lake as well as on several other lakes in the neighborhood.
Lake View has its own police department located at the municipal building just off Tannehill Parkway. The town is also served by the Lakeview Fire District, formed over 40 years ago and which, thanks to years of hard work by committed area residents, has grown to a Class 5 fire district. There are a variety of churches to choose from in surrounding areas and the town.
Since the 1998 incorporation of the town, the beautifully designed Lake View Elementary School has been built. Currently, Tuscaloosa County is building the much-anticipated PARA Activity Center near the school.
Shopping and dining available nearby include Publix and Piggly Wiggly grocery stores, a variety of restaurants and retail businesses in the McCalla area located only 10-15 minutes from the town, as well as those in Hoover and Tuscaloosa, both less than a half hour drive. Tannehill Valley Medicine is a local medical center with a variety of physicians and other medical facilities and dentists are close by in the McCalla area. UAB Medical West’s new state of the art freestanding emergency room has opened just off I-459 and operates 24/7.
The beautiful Tannehill Ironworks Historic State Park is just down the road from Lake View, famous for a variety of popular events throughout the year, especially its monthly Trade Days held March – November. The park also offers camping, hiking trails, craft shops, a country store, an Iron & Steel Museum and much more!
